          Institute of Spatial Planning & Regional Economy (ISPRE), National Development and Reform Commission P.R.C, was founded in 1988 and is the corporate organization with the administrative level of department, one of nine institutes in The Academy of Macroeconomy, NDRC.
         ISPRE is characterized in practical policy research and relevant development plans formulation. ISPRE ’s programs mainly come from the relevant departments in SDPC. Simultaneously, ISPRE also take on programs from the ministries of The State Council, local governments in all levels and enterprises. In addition, the office for cooperation and exchange center in resources and environment SDPC attached to ISPRE, is responsible to the programs of cooperation and exchange in resources and environment, under the direction of the department of regional economic development NDRC.
So far, ISPRE has finished about one hundred research programs. In line with date, the main of them are:
1.          Study on 1990’s Economic Development Strategy in China’s Coastal Area.
2.   Study on Rationalization of China’s Industrial Distribution and Its Counter-Measures.
3.         Study on the framework of Overall National Spatial Planning During 2000-2020
4.   Study on China’s Regional Policies.
5.        Study on Urbanization Strategy in China.
6.  Study on Coordinating Development and Rational Distribution of Regional Economy in China.
7.  Study on the Utilization and Cooperation of the International Rivers in China.
8.         Study on Comprehensive Development of the Economic Belt along Yangtze River in 21^st Century.
9.  Study on China’s Regional Coordinated Development in the Tenth Five-year Plan Period.
10.  Study on the Strategy of Sustainable Development in China in Early 21^th Century.
11.  Study on Development Strategy of the Regions along the Second Continent Bridge from Asia to Europe.
12.  Study on Issues of Regional Significant Environment in China.
13.  Study on Large-Scale Development Strategy of the Western Region in China.
14.            Study on Urbanization in Countryside and Development of Middle and Small Cities in China.
15.  Study on Significant Issues of Large-Scale Development of the Western Region in China.
16.  Study on Industrial Development of 14 Provinces in North China.
In addition,
       At present, ISPRE is equipped with a mass of research fellows and experts in regional planning, urban development, economic geography, resource utilization, ecological & environmental protection and computer. Of them, 14 senior researchers and 10 doctorates
ISPRE is composed of administrative office and five research divisions (spatial planning, regional economy, urban development, resource & environment and sustainable development).
